Question raised - my terrace is sheeted and so there is no direct sunlight; Can I grow fruits and vegetables on this roof? will anyone clarify please...

Dear Friends, You have not clarified which kind of sheet covering the roof. If the roof is covered with blue or green transparent sheets, then okay, if it is a sheet made of cement or tin or other material that not allowing penetration of sunlight, then the growing vegetable is difficult due to the following reasons-

1. Most of the vegetable belongs to Solanaceae or Cucurbitaceae or other vegetable families that are either seasonal or annual and the creepers and plants require more watering and sunlight to fast-growing.

2. Leaf is broad and thick, sometimes light fleshy too, and that requires minimum moderate to normal but direct sunlight up to min. 6 hrs to the plant in order to make more photosynthesis and grow.

3. Less photosynthesis means fewer growing plants with much nutritional deficiency and due to the absence of sunlight, there are many chances to attack insects and other diseases.

4. If it grows, it also, lacking the actual nutritional value for that the vegetables are grown.

Now you please tell me the type of sheets, you have on your roof. I hope the above-given reasons are enough to understand even if you have any problem, may contact me on pdd100@gmail.com and I will try to solve your problems.

Thanks & regards.
