Shatavari has been used for many centuries in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. Shatavari is said to promote fertility and have a range of health benefits, particularly for the female reproductive system. Shatavari can serve as a powerful male tonic. With a bittersweet taste, this herb renders a cooling and purifying effect to the liver and blood, and targets pitta at its main site in the small intestine.

In men, Shatavari increases sperm count and lowers sexual problems such as erectile dysfunction. Shatavari or Asparagus racemosus, when taken regularly as Shatavari churna or powder, can help reduce stress, calm your mind and increase blood circulation, which consequently helps in treating erectile dysfunction.

Shatavari is also known as the female-friendly herb because the peeled and dried roots of the Shatavari when given as an Ayurvedic Rasayana or semisolid kadha, prepared along with jaggery black pepper, dried ginger (sonth), increases power to clean the uterus after childbirth and further repair the uterus muscles to make active for next conceiving.

It is also helpful in menstrual disorders and acts as a uterine tonic. It enhances breast development and increases breast milk production by regulating hormonal balance.

The above use is just an introduction, Shatavari has many other health benefits also. This important herb is grown in our gardens and now this month we started its harvesting. The root collection is being done only fully matured plant but before uprooting the plant, we are collecting seeds as the seeds have a very important role just like Halyun seeds (A. officinalis) in Unani to prepare medicines for aphrodisiac, stomachic, tonic and gonorrhea, flatulence in the stomach, Renal and vesical calculus, Dropsy, Rheumatism, Gout, Amenorrhoea, and Sexual Disability.

Thank you,

Stay healthy, stay safe...
